FAQ

Everything you need to know about my studio!

Where do you hold your lessons?

Right now, all lessons are online using Zoom.

What are your qualifications?

I hold a Master of Music from the Peabody Conservatory in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from James Madison University. I have maintained an active voice and piano studio since 2008 in the Maryland and Virginia areas, and am an active member of professional and community theatres in the greater Baltimore area. See my about page for more information.

Are you available as a singer/pianist for hire?

Yes! I can provide background music at your event, accompany musical theatre auditions, perform classical arias/art song and much more. I have many colleagues that I collaborate with if you are in need of multiple musicians. Please contact me to see if I would be a good fit for your occasion!

How much do you charge for your teaching?

Visit my pricing page for more information! I offer lesson subscriptions for the best deal, but I also offer packages and one time lessons for a single charge.

How long should my lesson be?

This depends on your age, goals, and experience. If you are signing your child up for lessons, start with 30 minutes. We can always upgrade to longer lessons later on. If you are a beginner adult, 45 minutes is appropriate. Advanced students typically need 45-60 minute lessons. Contact me if you have questions about this, and we can decide what will be best for you!

My 6 year old wants voice lessons.

Is she old enough?

The short answer: probably not. The longer answer: the voice is made up of muscles that are developing through adulthood. A child's body is not equipped to sing with sophisticated technique. If your young child would like to sing, I recommend piano lessons. Your child will learn musicianship skills that will be directly related to singing later on. If your child REALLY wants to sing, we can integrate singing into piano lessons, or I can conduct a diagnostic lesson in voice. I am happy to help with audition prep for singers of all ages.

Is my child old enough to begin piano lessons?

Some kids are ready at 3 or 4, but usually 5 or 6 is more appropriate. This depends on the maturity of your child. I will happily teach a diagnostic lesson to determine if your child is ready for lessons.
